Government demands for Facebook details; Home Education; Databases; Grandparents as carers; School Meals; Jonathan Ross...
Every morning it gets closer, the cowardly new world order - or disorder.
Posts on the deeply disturbing developments in Government policy on/against parents' rights to educate their own children rather than hand them over to the state, are generally out of date before they go up, owing to the frightening pace at which things are changing - in the direction of totalitarian control.
Leaving that aside, today I got up at the insistence of the parrot at six a.m. to hear that the government is now intending:
1) To require Facebook etc to hand them our networking details
2) To control what children eat, by bringing in very strict nutritional guidelines for schoolmeals. I was unaware that the option to eat at home was being restricted so far until today. According to the news report, only two-thirds of secondary pupils are allowed off school premises at lunch time... There is now concern somewhere in BBHQ at Westminster that LA's may choose not to provide and pupils may choose not to be force-fed whatever computer-controlled 'nutrition' (with whatever additives) the government may decide to decree.
3)To have grandparents who care for their grandchildren to be brought into the Tax Credit system, so that parents wil be able to claim Tax Credits for the childcare the grandparents provide, which they then pass on to the grandparent carers.
Now, at first glance this may appear just silly. Why bring in extra layers of regulation when informal arrangements work perfectly well, and grandparents are doing what they do for love, not money?
Look a little deeper, however, and 'join up' your thoughts as they tell us they do, and you may conclude that this 'joins up' with all those other rules (brought in on the back of fears over abuse), about 'informal fostering' etc., as well as the potentially illegal Contact Point and other databases which make it possible for them to track the moves of every one of us from embryo to corpse.
4) Jonathan Ross is now back in - if we are naive enough to believe he was ever out of - Establishment favour, and is nominated for a BAFTA.
How much of a coincidence was it that Russell Brand became unacceptable only when he broadcast with Ross? Brand has now been exiled for his revolutionary views, which were causing fear to those in authority, and Ross has been rewarded, not only by being given back his obscenely highly paid job, but now, we hear, by being presented with a BAFTA award - for services rendered?
Brand was used as an excuse to censor broadcasting.

HOMELAND EDIFICATION
17 MARCH 2009
There has been, as was publicly acknowledged on radio this morning, a ‘dangerous shift’ (‘Not another one! Surely some mistake!’ I hear you cry). This time it concerns, once more, oddly enough, our children and their education and ‘well-being’.
What used to be the Department of Indoctrination - oops, sorry - Education - and is now, several unsuccessful incarnations later, having discarded George Orwell and adopted Margaret Attwood (both of whom they seem to be using not as warnings but as guidelines for practice), the Department for the Usurpation of What Few Rights All the Other Departments Have Left Us With, put another idiot on air to tell us that, yes, they do feel that school is a better place for our children to be looked after, ‘socialized’, and taught what is an ‘acceptable’ (rather than right) way to behave.
As a home educating parent, you may think I am feeling smug about this, since my children are immune from all the nonsensical random panic-driven notions these fools devise on a daily basis. But wait; their plans are more cunning than that. The right that every parent now has - a right which is also, rightly, an obligation, is to provide education for their children - in or outside of a school setting, and what is important but often missed, is that this is a right we all have, whether or not we choose to exercise our choice to opt out of the education system, the state sector of which is falling apart so spectacularly and frighteningly.
Those parents who have chosen the difficult but rewarding path of taking charge of the education of their own children instead of leaving it all to someone else - cooking their own dinner instead of buying a takeaway of dubious quality with the attendant health risks short and long term - are your friends, people - not another group of weirdos to be castigated, scorned and reviled by the populist press. They are exercising a right we all have. Like exercising the body, exercising rights is important. Having a body and letting someone else look after it when it is perfectly healthy is a crazy notion, yes? You exercise your own body, otherwise you find that you don’t have it any more. Similarly your rights as a human living on the planet. OK, ideally everyone would be free to do whatever they chose because ideally those things would harm no one else, but idea and fact are not the same because matter gets in the way and you bump into things sometimes.
The point I am trying to make is that there is a programme of curtailment if not downright removal of rights underway and it is advancing apace everywhere (though particularly, it seems to me, in the UK - though that may just be an effect of living here, like a fondness for potatoes which an Italian friend once noted as a prominent aspect of the British character) with the excuse firstly of the War on Terra - sorry - Terror - which the nice Mr O tells us we must not mention any more - and more recently with the collapse of the global economy - something which we are asked to believe came as a complete surprise to everyone and was caused by some naughty men in banks getting paid lots of money all of a sudden. Que?
There is something sinister afoot, on a bigger scale than we might imagine, and we are being corralled into position to be used when the time comes - and they have already made a start on closing the borders, remember.. We need to stop our sleepwalking and wake up while we still can - but not just so we can be given a sleeping pill.
Or who will be there when they come for us?
